The best hiking trails in Berguedà

Let’s take a look at some of the best hiking trails you can enjoy in Berguedà. Remember that there are routes of all levels and it is very important that you take this difficulty into account before venturing out in order to practice safe hiking.

We start with the most complicated routes. One of the most popular is the Ascent of Pedraforca. This is one of the most iconic routes in Berguedà and also one of the most difficult, as it requires some experience and not to have vertigo. If you are able to complete it, you will be able to enjoy panoramic views over the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park and the flora and fauna of the high mountains.

For mountain lovers, the Travessa de la Serra del Cadí is also recommended. Also in this natural park, along this route you can walk mountains and see glacial valleys, high altitude lakes and beautiful peaks, a gift for the eyes.

We lower the difficulty to the medium routes. In this difficulty, a great route to discover Berguedà much better is the Ascent to the Sanctuary of Queralt from Berga. This route takes you from the center of Berga to the impressive Sanctuary of Queralt, also known as the “Balcony of Catalonia” where you will see the Church of the Cave and several viewpoints that offer you views of all Berga and the Llobregat valley.

Another route of medium difficulty that we recommend leads to another sanctuary, that of Falgars and Fuentes del Llobregat. This route can be started from different places, so you can shorten or lengthen it depending on what you prefer. The route starts from the Fountains of the Llobregat and ascends to the Sanctuary of Falgars where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Alta Berguedà, as well as the tranquil mountains that surround it.

We continue with the easiest options. A perfect option to enjoy this mountainous area with the family is the Pont de Pedret and Sant Quirze de Pedret Route. It is a short route that combines nature and history in equal parts and takes place on the banks of the Llobregat River. Along this route you will visit the Pedret Bridge and the ancient pre-Romanesque church of Sant Quirze de Pedret.

Another of the easiest routes you can take are the Greenways. Along this route you will get to know old railway tracks that have been transformed into comfortable and flat roads, perfect for family walks, enjoying the outdoors and learning more about the river landscape and the industrial history of the textile colonies of the Llobregat.

What to bring for hiking in the area

If you want to go hiking in the area, we recommend that you bring appropriate equipment even if you are going to carry out simple routes. Being in a natural environment, mainly in the mountains, it is good to wear suitable footwear so that the foot is well supported and protected.

The weather in the mountains is quite changeable, so we recommend that you wear layered clothing so that you can take off or put on depending on the weather. Hydration is very important, so you should never lack water in your backpack.

In the mountains it can be very sunny, so for your hiking plan you should never miss good sunglasses, a hat and also sunscreen or cream. It’s a good idea to carry a small emergency kit, even if there are nearby towns where you can buy things.

Finally, if you are going to dare to walk a lot, it may be a good idea to help yourself with some trekking poles. These poles will make your walk a little easier, so they are a good idea even on routes marked as easier.
